Hi
I would recommend using a wet vac and slowly pour hot water on the spot and vacuum it up at the same time (this will open up the dye ports on the carpet fibre releasing the stain. and remove the residue from the carpet). If the stain is still visible than use a little carpet spotter on it or Dawn dishwashing liquid (2 or 3 drops into one cup of water) and repeat step 1. The stain may come back in a few days so you may have to do this a few times. Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet. At this point if the stain is still there please call a carpet cleaner. What I have suggested will not lock the stain in.

believe it or not the best way to remove stains such as this is
a little water in a spray bottle and a shop vacuum. spray the area
then extract and repeat until clean.

Have you tried oxy clean or some kind of de greaser? sometimes I mix clothes detergent and water and scrub the area and dab with a cloth to keep from spreading it. Then again i wash with oxy clean and then use some fabric softener with water to rinse it. Good luck.

Make sure you vaccuum or sweep up all loose soot before you start to use any liquid cleaners because once its wet it is harder to deal with.

Yes. you can get pumice/lava stone based odor absorbers to help absorb the out-gassing until it is mild enough out to open the windows. Get some lavender plants or sachets to use as rehabilitation therapy for your respiratory system

It's difficult to picture without seeing it in person but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to carpet the entire floor minus around the furnace.
Perhaps you could find some slate tiles to compliment your carpet color to put under and around the furnace.
You could also get some decorative screens to disguise/hide the furnace .

Basements = Potential moisture problems. Serious ones at that. Professional is the ONLY way to go. Use seperate contractors for carpentry and heating/cooling. Almost ALL will give you free estimates. ALWAYS oversee your contractor... ALWAYS. It will be money well spent . You keep the moisture out and you will be fine. Price, of course, will vary depending on size, type of rooms you want and how fancy you care to make them.

You have a bad connection, or the tube to drain the condensation water is plugged. I would replace it with vinyl tubing which is flexible & easy to manage. Dry the bottom of the furnace with a portable fan. You need to prevent rust from ruining your system.

<a href="http://www.oxygenie.ca/">carpet cleaning calgary</a>

This is the drain for your inside the furnace cooling coil. Sometimes the drain hose looses the water in the "S" Shaped trap, and air gets sucked up the drain keeping the water from flowing out. Or the drain pan has some debris in it blocking the drain. The water from the coil (water condenses on the coil and drips in the pan) is made as warmer air passes over the coil.
Pour some water in the drain pipe before you connect it to the drain fitting.
Take the drain fitting off and connect the small suction hose from your vaccum or shop vac. This will suck the debris out of the pan.
It also could be your ac unit is low on freon, this will cause the coil to freeze over.
Try these 2 remedies first.

<a href="http://www.oxygenie.ca/">calgary carpet cleaning</a>

Most dust in a house is dead skin which dust mites eat for food.Cover pillows and mattresses with dust covers and wash bedding often. The Filtrete 1250 is an excellent filter, leave the furnace fan on all the time to pump the most air through the filter.

I hope you do not have 12 cats and 8 dogs, more than one animal per person is disfunctional. If there are too many people and animals in the house you will not be able to solve this simply, you may need an electrostatic filter installed on the furnace.

People now days do not really clean they just maintain a level of filth they are comfortable around. My grandmother cleaned every day of her life until she tripped and broke her neck while cleaning.People call me a clean freak but it is easy to impress fratboy slobs.

The drain line may be blocked and the pan is overflowing.

If the AC unit is not level that may cause it to overflow.
Had both problems once.

Check the pan for sediment, dust, etc. This can block the drain.
A little bleach in the pan can prevent that.

<a href="http://www.oxygenie.ca/">carpet cleaning calgary</a>

thats a link for a really good electronic air filter. (it should be for $900) but it also shows the effectiveness of different air filters.

i would reccomend a 1" pleated air filter rather than a hog hair type filter. they are less restrictive and catch more dust.

ive installed several of the air effects electronic filters.

on one house (the old lady with 27 cats) we did a furnace / air conditioner changeout and installed a electronic filterand the lady told us that it made a huge difference in the amount of dusting she had to do.

most folks notice some difference.

as far as dirty ducts go, there is a point where ducts will put dust into the air moving through them, but they have to be VERY dirty.

most of the horror stories about dirty ducts are about as true as the texas chainsaw massacre.

you might consiter getting a humidifer. with respect to the ol boy who said that dust mites die when its drier than 50% relitive humidity, thats a crock of crap. most houses are around 10% rh in the winter if they have forced air heat.

ive noticed that the dirt roads around here are less dusty when they are wet..... perhaps the dust mites drowned. at any rate, raising the rh in a house will make the filter work a little better. i dont know why and im not going to make up some sad tale to explain it.

hope this helps,
Possum

<a href="http://www.oxygenie.ca/">calgary carpet cleaning</a>

Maintaining relative humidity below 50% prevents dust mite infestations, which can lead to high levels of dust.

Keep levels even lower in the winter 30 to 40 percent which will help eleviate sweating windows.
